Here you will find key characteristics of general learning difficulties/disorders; if diagnosed, these difficulties are often referred to as Specific Learning Difficulties (SPLDs).
Typically these disorders do not occur in isolation; there is a degree of overlap or ‘comorbidity’.
This is not an exhaustive list of possible obstacles to learning, but is a good starting point to better understand your child’s struggles.
Undiagnosed Difficulties
Specialist tuition does not require a diagnosis of disorders, such as ADHD, Dyspraxia or Dyslexia.
To support to a struggling student, I aim to understand their difficulties, work with them to develop effective learning strategies, whilst prioritising their wellbeing.
Learning difficulties persist with or without a diagnosis. Specialist support helps your child independently combat these difficulties.
Diagnosed Difficulties
Commissioning a formal diagnostic report to diagnose a possible learning difficulty/disorder is a personal decision, and beneficial for those families who want to specifically name their child's difficulties.
If the diagnosis concludes a Dyslexic/ Dyscalculic profile, your child's difficulties could benefit from specialist tuition.
This is typically noted within the diagnostic report, along with other general advice and recommendations for home and school.
