Students Studying in the Library

EnglishTuition:
Secondary Setting

Students’ learning can stall at secondary school.

They become increasingly self-conscious, emotions are exacerbated by the onset of puberty and with the increased volume and challenge of learning, their progress may plateau. Ironically, this can disproportionately affect the most conscientious students, as they consider the ‘fault’ is with themselves rather than the challenging classroom environment.

A  mainstream Secondary School English curriculum aims to develop literacy skills that underpin Language and Literature schemes in readiness for GCSEs. Some inclusive provisions will also offer alternative qualifications such as English Entry Level and Functional Skills.

Whatever their qualification path, my online tuition is designed in conjunction with their Secondary School Teaching Team to provide opportunities to learn in a ‘safe’ environment stretching their understanding and skills; this bespoke support helps reduce anxiety, promote progress, and  stimulate a sense of achievement.

Exam Access Arrangements

Once your child begins studying for their GCSEs, it is important to understand how their difficulties may manifest in the exam setting. As a qualified Assessor of Psychometric Testing, Assessment and Access Arrangements, and a detailed knowledge of the current Joint Council of Qualifications regulations, I can work with your school’s SENCo to inform the Access Arrangements they may be eligible for.
